After lifting of the Sole Concession, Olieselskabet Danmark (later to become OK) wished to branch out into oil exploration. Therefore the company joined forces with DLG and Sparekassen SDS, as well as oil companies Britoil and Amarada Hess in order to obtain licenses for the announced First Licensing Round, scheduled for 1984. |
On June 22 Olieselskabet Danmark formed their first partnership with Britoil, Amarada Hess and DLG. |
1984 |
In the 1st Licensing Round Olieselskabet Danmark obtained their two first licenses, as partners in the Britoil Group. One license in the North Sea and the other on shore at Sæby in Jutland. Olieselskabet Danmark participated in their first North Sea exploration drilling, Iris-1 |

No traces of hydrocarbons in Sæby-1 |
1986 |
Formation of the company Dansk Oliesøgning with DLG a.m.b.a and Sparekassen SDS with a view to join The 2nd Licensing Round. Dansk Oliesøgning joined up with Norsk Hydro, Texas Eastern and Amarada Hess to apply in this round. The group was awarded four new licenses in The 2nd Licensing Round, two in the North Sea and one in the proximity of Bornholm. The state owned company DOPAS and the privately owned company DENERCO were included in all groups when licenses were awarded. |

Syd Arne Phase I. Reserves at 89 mio. bbl. oil and 4.3 billion m3 of gas |
1997 |
Due to the development plan for the Syd Arne field, and the estimated production volume, Danoil’s share of License 7/89 was reduced to 1.58 % as a result of the so-called sliding scale rule, which allows DONG to increase their share within certain limits. |
Danoil’s share of License 7/89 Syd Arne was reduced to 1.58 % |
1999 |
First oil from Syd Arne on July 25th 1999 and first gas on November 9th 1999. Analysis to explore the prospects of water injection in the field was initiated. |

Drilling of appraisal well Modi-1 on the eastern flank of the Syd Arne field. |
Only shows of hydrocarbons in the Upper Cretacious Chalk. |
2000 |
First test of first water injection in the Syd Arne field. The test proved that water injection would increase oil and gas extraction considerably. |
|
2001 |
A development plan for complete implementation of water injection in the Syd Arne field was approved, and estimates for reserves were more than doubled compared to the original development plan. The number of production wells was increased to 16. |
Syd Arne Phase II – Reserve estimate increased to 190 mill bbl oil and 8.8 bill m3 gas. |
2003 |
The Katherine-1 appraisal well on the eastern flank of the Syd Arne field fulfilled the expectations as to reservoir properties, but the well was never tested. This might have saved the cost of drilling the SA17 well, which produced nothing but water for a number of years and was then plugged and abandoned. |

The Rigs-3 appraisal well was drilled north of the Syd Arne field to assess potential for a northern extension. The area was-riddled by faults and it proved necessary to drill 3 sidetracks |
The Rigs-3 well confirmed that the Syd Arne field extended a lot further north that first assumed. |
2006-10 |
It was decided to drill a number of in-fill wells in the Syd Arne field. First SA-17, followed by 18 and 19. After a short production period SA-17 was plugged, and SA-20 and 21 were drilled. From this point on there was no more space available for production wells on the Syd Arne platform |

The Rigs-4 well only shows insignificant traces of oil and gas on the southern flank of the Syd Arne field. |
2008 |
Danoil made a strategic decision to expand activities after a number of years with a slowdown in activities and relinquishing of exploration licenses. The initial initiative was the acquisition of a 10 % share of the combined licenses Gita 9/06 and Maja 9/95 from Shell. The same year the exploration well Gita-1 was set up, this was Danoil’s first HPHT well. |

2009 |
The result from Gita-1 was very uncertain and the partners had varying opinions of the results , which lead to a number of more or less contradictory press releases from some of Danoil’s partners. In Danoil’s opinion the reservoir was probably too tight for commercial production. |
